A Relationship with Anxiety

What is Anxiety?  Is it nervousness, worries and/or concerns that preoccupy our mind?  Maybe you have said before "I'm just a little anxious about this interview."  When then does anxiety become a problem?

We all have a relationship with some form of anxiety. And some times it is normal to feel a bit anxious and the feeling is only temporary.  Then there are times where it just does not go away....  It is a toxic relationship that we try to break up with over and over again.  You try to tell yourself "It's okay" without really believing those words.  Anxiety starts to creep into various parts of your life.  It can look a little different each time.

A photographer had the courage to depict her relationship with anxiety through one of the ways she knows how to express herself: through her photos.  She created surreal and vivid images to show her battle with anxiety and how it sometimes overtakes her.  Sometimes, it is hard to tell people how much of a daily struggle it is to have anxiety always with you. Sometimes, it is hard to explain it to ourselves.  As you peruse through the photos, do you feel like you can relate to one or more of the photos?

My Anxious Heart

by Katie Crawford

You don't have to have a toxic relationship with anxiety.  Like any break up attempts, it is hard to do it alone.  Talk to somebody you feel will take the time to understand you.  That can be a friend, family member or a Therapist.  Through your conversations, you and that other person can start trying to figure out how to deal with anxiety as you understand it better.
