Mental Health during 2 Pandemics

2020…You brought new challenges that we never dreamed of having before: physical isolation, working from home and distance learning while amplifying an already existing pandemic of racism. We are waking up with more stress and fear of what may happen. For those of us who gets to work from home, we put on a brave face, thankful to have a job, and act as if we should not be concern about anything else. Because….at least we have a job, right?

2020…You are almost coming to an end; however, the challenges we are facing may not be ending soon. In a future oriented solution focused world, it is normal for people to feel overwhelmed and almost paralyzed by the pandemic. How do you solve a problem when it takes more than just one person, more than one community? How do you look forward to the future when you’re not sure when the pandemic will end?

It is a struggle right now for all of us. Like all community trauma, there can be long term negative impact on people’s mental health with increased rates of depression and anxiety that can linger even after the pandemic ends. What can a Therapist really do? We are here to support and help you deal with this crisis that has been thrown at you. Find glimmers of hope when you feel all is lost. Cultivate healing when you are barraged with racial and social injustice. Compassion is what we all need for ourselves and for each other.
